What do you think would happen if four coaches were yelling slightly different instructions at each of these rowers?

The overall plan would be lost in the noise, the team would get out of sync pretty quickly, and the boat would veer off course.

This is what can happen in a business when each member of the leadership team is coached individually. It might seem like they’re growing in their roles, but there is no cohesion. The team is out of sync, and the business veers off course.

One plan. One voice. One direction.

Just to be clear, I don’t shout at my clients through a megaphone, but I do coach them as a team. Over the years, I’ve seen some incredible results when two things happen: Short, medium and long term goals are agreed in advance (and documented), and a system of accountability is in place.

Like all good team performances, the secret is in the planning. Take time to agree on the final destination, who’s responsible for what and then have one voice to keep everyone accountable and make sure they’re all pulling in the same direction.

Are there too many megaphones in your organisation? Let me know below.
