Ever had an employee that looked good on paper but turned out to be a nightmare?

That’s because most things in the workplace aren’t done on paper. It’s about building relationships and developing a healthy culture as you all work together for a common goal.

One of my clients had this painful realisation in one of our quarterly planning sessions last week. Painful because they have a senior member of staff going on maternity leave, and they had a replacement lined up. He ticked the boxes from a technical point of view, but he just wasn’t the right fit for the organisation.

So, they decided not to take him on.

‘Don’t worry, it’ll work out’ was their previous attitude to employees, but now they are starting to see (in advance!) the damage a wrong hire can do to the organisation as a whole.

Would you rather deal with the consequences of an empty seat in your business or deal with someone who’s not the right fit? Let me know below.
