It’s the attitude of the people in the business that makes the difference when times are tough, and my seafaring/business metaphors are the result of a jaw-dropping moment in a recent client session.
In response to a comment by one of his peers that we are all in this together, one of the team replied, “We may be in the same boat, but at least it’s not my side that’s sinking”.
That’s pretty appalling behaviour and deeply unhelpful when it comes to rebuilding and motivating a team. Luckily, I’m able to use my set of simple tools and a bulletproof process to help this business repair its hull and avoid any future torpedoes.
