How strong is your meeting pulse?

As with your own body, an indicator of the health of your business is the quality of your pulse, in this case, your meeting pulse. If the purpose of the heart is to pump fresh blood around the body bringing oxygen and forcing old blood through the filters and back for another round, then consider meetings in the same light. I’m not talking about those times where you sit in a room, everyone says a whole bunch of stuff & nothing actually gets done. The types of meetings inspired by Dilbert cartoons. Rather, I am talking about meetings that result in the team, and the business as a whole, being better due to the meeting having occurred.

Steady rhythm

How consistent is your pulse? Is it a steady rhythm, fluctuating wildly or barely noticeable? Do you meet on a regular basis as a leadership team and then flow out to the rest of the business, or do you only meet when absolutely necessary, see these gatherings as a complete waste of time only to move on to the next one with no time to put in place any of the decisions made?

Strong & Clear

What’s the quality like? Is it weak and fluttery, happening but very ineffective? When you meet, is it a good use of everyone’s time? Is there:

  • a clear agenda;
  • time for reporting;
  • identification of the root cause of issues;
  • solutions to those issues found
  • clarity on who is responsible for putting the solutions in place

Finding the right meeting pulse

1000’s of leadership teams all over the world utilise the power of meeting for 90 minutes every week with a set of simple rules and a consistent agenda. We call it the Level 10 meeting. Why Level 10? We are shooting for a score of 10 out of 10 when the meeting is rated by the participants. Check out the World class meetings ebook to give you a complete picture of what a Level 10 meeting looks like.
