Sure, you could go with the traditional 1 January or 1 July, but how about mixing it up a bit?
Next Monday (21 June) is the Winter Solstice Down Under, which means it will be chilly (and rainy, looking at the forecast), but we’ll also have the least amount of daylight of any day this year.
That may sound a little depressing… until you think that things will get brighter from here on in.
